Cemetery workers deserve better

THE EDITOR, Madam

Mourners turned up at Meadowrest Memorial Gardens in St Catherine to bid farewell to loved ones last Thursday, only to find there were no workers and they could not bury their loved ones.

Workers are disgruntled after they were promised an increase of $300 per day but then told they will be given $125 on the $2,500 they currently receive. These workers deserve more, as they work in the hot sun every day to lay our loved ones to rest.

Some of my family members are interred at Meadowrest Memorial Gardens; last week, it should have been my nephew who was to be buried there. Instead, all mourners and undertakers had to turn back with the bodies.

This is unacceptable and should not have happened.
