Readers’ Feedback| We need our children back in school

Published:Thursday | October 28, 2021 | 2:45 AM

Below are responses from our readers regarding our story published yesterday, ‘School relief: Thousands of primary school children get Nov 8 green light for face-to-face’.

If the numbers spike would this be another time ‘Anju’ buckles and the numbers get loose again like the entertainment sector in the summer, we will see!

It’s about time. But come to think about it, face-to-face class is much-needed but it’s too sudden. Should have put it for January.

January seems more feasible. By then parents such as myself will be adequately prepared.

– Dawn Graham

Well this is a good start. Let’s hope it work out. Kids need education.

– Maureen Cunningham

I believe that January would be the right time to reopen all schools so as not to risk upsetting the balance and progress made with the pandemic. This time should be used to get things in proper order (vaccinations, locating all students unaccounted for, setting up protocol friendly infrastructure at schools as well as giving parents adequate time) so as to give ourselves the best chance of reopening schools without any reversal in the direction of the positivity rates. It would be a real shame if this proceeds now only to lead to a lockdown of the Christmas period which is essential to the economy and maybe even resulting in a delay of the reopening of schools in January. Having said that, the education sector is in a dire crisis so the desire to start right away is fully understood and appreciated.

More time needed, more than two weeks for preparation but let’s see.

I hope and pray all will be well. This is welcomed news. Our children have been set back because of this online platform. Stay safe, practise social distancing, wear your mask and do your best, children. - Paula Barnett

I wonder the vax rates for those schools? - Nicola Redds

Good move. Hope the rest will be able to return to face-to-face classes by January. Many countries have done it. We can’t afford to have our children left behind. - Angela Rosa Lee
