Serve and protect us!

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I would like to know why the officers at the Lawrence Tavern Police Station are supporting lawlessness in the community of Lawrence Tavern and its environs in West Rural St Andrew.

On Monday, April 25, in the late afternoon hours, loud blaring music accompanied by a band known to play at ‘nine night’ or ’set up’ (before a funeral service) could be heard from the community square, Rose Hall, Top Road and Grant Hill. All the speeches, pronouncements and music were blaring over a sound system that could be heard miles around. This continued until 2:20 a.m. Tuesday morning!

This is insane! We were all uninvited guests because although we weren’t on the same premises, we had to endure the loud sounds coming from this function right through the night.

No one could sleep through this torture as the loud noise was bouncing off our windows and doors.

My question to the inspector of the station is, since the lifting of the COVID restrictions, aren’t permits granted for events such as these? Second, isn’t there a time limit placed on these permits?

Third, the police station is located right outside of the town square, and they were also subjected to this noise nuisance! Was it falling on deaf ears? Several calls were being made to the station and the phones apparently were out of service as there was no response.
