Garbage pile-up on the streets is unacceptable

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I was recently in Jamaica (I’m a part-time resident) at my home in Mandeville. I had the pleasure to meet the member of parliament, Rhoda Crawford, who assisted us in getting the garbage picked up – for it was three to four weeks with no garbage removal. As far as recycling is concerned – plastics, cardboard containers and bottles – it is non-existent there. Everyone informed me that the stores won’t recycle because people need to purchase crates first. This is unacceptable.

Local Jamaicans and returnees shouldn’t have to put up with these issues as well as unabated crime. Everyone needs to stand up and bring these issues to the Government, local members of parliament, the media and the authorities, for ‘informa fi dead’ is totally unacceptable.
