Too busy to live our lives

Published:Tuesday | May 31, 2022 | 12:18 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

The frantic pace at which many of us live demands and consumes so much of our time, attention and energy that we are left with very little for anything else.

In daily conversations, we often hear the expression “I’m too busy!” Too busy to listen and learn. To take an interest in current affairs, local and worldwide. To invest in the difficult task of carefully assessing information that bombards us from multiple sources and try to sift fact from fiction, rather than go with the flow of popular opinion.

Too busy to give much attention to matters outside of our narrow sphere of interests, to recognise and value and cherish that which is true and right and just and good.

Too busy to engage in thought and action related to social, cultural, historical, artistic, philosophical or spiritual matters.

Too busy earning and possessing, rather than pursuing that crucial life ingredient –relationships. Relationships with friends, with family and, most importantly, with the true and living God.

Too busy to listen, to learn, to live – until it’s too late. It really does not profit men to gain the whole world and to lose out on living their lives.
