Good move to digitise police stations

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am writing this letter with reference to the article, ‘Taking policing to digital level’, which was published in The Gleaner on May 30.

This is the very first time that I have ever felt 100 per cent that the four police stations mentioned can be transformed to digital level service. I hope this is sooner than later.

As a retired electrical and electronics engineer, I have some suggestions.

First, service contracts should be purchased for Internet Service Provider (ISP) and computers services.

All four police stations should use the same brand name computers, for example, iMac. These computers are user-friendly. If you already have an iPhone, an iMac feels familiar from the moment you turn it on.

In terms of the ISO 9001 certification, I’m very familiar with the process to get certified, because I was involved in the process to get the department I had managed certified.

All four police stations are already experts at what they do. However, to get certified, every task they do must be documented, and how to do the task must be stated step by step and stored on the computers. And this action must be similar across all stations.

The ISO documentation is similar to the documents that most police officers have to prepare for the courts, when they have to testify under oath.
