Commendations to Spalding police

Published:Thursday | June 2, 2022 | 12:07 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Kindly allow me space in your prestigious newspaper to publicly commend the Spalding police for the high level of professionalism and efficacy with which the officers approach crime-fighting. Recently, a mentally ill man was brutally murdered in the area and in less than a week a suspect was identified, arrested and charged. As a mentally ill person myself and someone who advocates on behalf of the community, the professionalism and competence displayed by the Spalding police towards this case gives me hope that the idea of non-discrimination and equity towards solving crime is alive and well in the JCF; particularly in the Spalding Police Division.

Special commendations to Detective Constable Nixen Lewis who spearheaded the investigations and has been doing some seminal detective work over the years in the Spalding Police Division. On behalf of the community of the mentally ill, the Spalding Citizens’ Association, as well as the family and friends of Vaughn Ryman, I wish to salute the Spalding police crime investigation team for bringing some amount of closure to this case. Thanks to the police, the wheels of justice have started to turn and the pendulum is swinging in the right direction.

I trust that the courts will complement the hard work of the police in the dispensation of justice and further demonstrate that mentally ill persons’ lives matter. The word is always love!
