God is not coming to our rescue

THE EDITOR, Madam:

What is the real reason for so much crime to be taking place in Jamaica? Is it a matter of want or need?

Jamaica is slowing becoming like one of those countries where guns and bullets seem to be taking the lives of innocent folks. There seems to be no remorse by people after committing these vicious crimes, taking the lives of another human being.

Instead of focusing on the problems lying ahead and try to correct them from today, politicians in Jamaica seem to only be looking out for themselves.

What as become of that sweet Jamaican One Love Jam Down that Michigan and Smiley song about? What has become of the ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ principle we used to follow when we were growing up?

Now, it seem as if luxuries like big houses and pretty cars are getting all the attention and love, when the people should be cherishing and taking care of one another.

Are any prayers asking God to intervene in the criminal activities plaguing the island being answered? Every day, God-fearing people of Jamaica are sending out prayers.

Forming groups like neighbourhood watch, where each one is looking out for the other, is important. It is unfortunate that people can’t even trust all the lawmen to have their backs. The situation becomes even more worrying when we get to know that there are some cops who are running gangs, and are involved in criminal activities.

My fellow Jamaicans, we have to wake up and try to find our own solutions to the problems we are facing. No God nor Jesus ain’t coming to the rescue as we were taught.
