What a bam bam

THE EDITOR, Madam:

No Festival song and Jamaica is 60 years strong. No man, something must be wrong. Out of all the songs submitted, not even 10 were suitably, lyrically and rhythmically acquitted? It can’t be that we have all suddenly become stupid.

Now at 60, this Cherry O is having no baby, and the girls, coconut water and white rum, are missing from the fun. No longer music like dirt, or sweet and dandy. This is the stop without the go. No song for which to give thanks and praise. Really!? This is the land of my birth? Woii chiquitita.

We received 123 entries. Much less than previous years, said Babsy Grange. She said, in the Sectoral Debate on June 8, the JCDC is to return their entry fees. Oh Lord. What a bam bam.

Oh please, if the situation wasn’t so tragic I would be in stitches, laughing on bent knees. No pomp and pride, and certainly no hooray Festival. Jamaica is in a crisis.

But it’s the tip of the iceberg, a microcosm of society. Staring in the mirror, but with too many of us not understanding, accepting, and working to change the horrors we see in our individual and collective reflections.
