No to the all-female caucus
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Jamaicans all over the world should reject any form of gender discrimination. The Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party have different arms to their parties and both haven’t found it necessary to form caucuses in Parliament. We don’t have a liberal and conservative arm in either of the parties yet they found it necessary to form an all-female caucus which is totally against the Charter of Fundamental rights.
In addition, attempting to shame men into silence is childish and outdated and won’t deter us men from expressing our opinions. If and when men become a minority in Parliament, I, as a man, will be against the setting up of an all-male caucus. We have many issues to focus on rather than to divide the nation with gender issues which is, frankly, a non-issue. Females are basically the leaders in every sector in Jamaica.
