ChatGPT and JCDC

The Editor, Madam:

With the advent of OpenAI’s artificial intelligence, ChatGPT, I am concerned about the impact this chatbot will have on the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC’s) Creative Writing Competition. ChatGPT can be easily accessed and a request to produce a piece of creative writing (poem, script of a play, short story or a novel, essay, etc) on any topic can be facilitated.

As a JCDC multi-award winner for creative writing, folk like me, who have been writing for decades, take pride in producing our own work.

It is not just a passion, but an avenue to impact the world with my original content. I would feel cheated if (other) entrants produce plagiarised work done by ChatGPT. Will we also see an influx of entrants as a result of ChatGPT? Even more important, does JCDC have a mechanism to detect plagiarised work, including those from ChatGPT?
