Bad medical policies causing harm

Published:Wednesday | May 31, 2023 | 12:43 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I have a friend in need of blood for an upcoming surgery. I regularly give blood for people in need and encourage others to do so. I last gave for another person on March 26.

In the developed nations of the world, the time frame required between donations is around 60 days. For some reason, however, in Jamaica they require three months, or 90 days. Thus, I was turned away from giving for my friend because of a rule that has no basis in common sense, medical need, or general decency.

How many people are suffering in this country because of rules not in line with best practices in the rest of the world?
