They may not be students anymore, but these Sagicor Group team members were enthusiastic to celebrate the start of summer with the 5K and to win points for the corporate challenge.

The Jamaica Moves Corporate Challenge kicked off the summer season with the first ever School’s Out 5K held at Emancipation Park, in New Kingston.

Summer means more time to spend with family and friends who can join you in your summer workout plans. This was evident with the crowd of parents and their children happy to be off from school. The race was also the fourth of five races in the Corporate Challenge; with only one more race left in the challenge. The competition is in full swing as the 15 participating companies vie for the title of Challenge Champion.

Kemar of Rainforest Seafoods has been a consistent top performer in the challenge, not only this year, but also in previous circuits. He spoke of his experience thus far saying, “The Jamaica Moves Challenge has been an awesome experience. I must say big up our team leader, Alison Sutherland and our CEO, Mr Jardim, for supporting this initiative; a challenge is always good. To have a successful race you must prepare, you must train and you must have a healthy diet. Big up to our Health and Wellness Minister, Christopher Tufton, for this initiative and all of the Jamaica Moves body. It has been an awesome experience.”

Adrian of Jamaica Broilers Group expressed his thoughts on his team’s current standing sharing, “JB is second place in the Corporate Challenge and I’m currently in the top 10 individual male standings in the challenge. This aligns with our joint belief in being fit and healthy and eating properly, so it's great being a part of this challenge as its a combination of fun and wellness.”

Others such as John Urquhart from team Main Event Group, have used the challenge to set and to smash personal goals.

He shared, “I decided to do the challenge because I want to keep fit. I try to match my times every race. So far, my best is 33 minutes, so I’m trying to beat that.”

The reigning champion, Rainforest Seafood, currently remains atop the leaderboard with Advanced Integrated Systems, FLOW Jamaica, Wisynco Group Limited and Jamaica Broilers Group Limited rounding off the top five.

Participating companies will be gearing up to win as many points as possible in the last race, Jamaica Stock Exchange Welcome to Kingston 5K (July 14, Waterfront, Downtown). The race is also open for the public to join in on the action.
