Weight loss has entered the chat. And one celebrity who is weighing in on the matter is host and comedian, Trippple X. Now rocking a slimmer physique, he has lost 130 pounds and he’s feeling great about the lifestyle improvement.

His health and fitness journey started when he began having sleep problems. Borderline hypertensive, borderline diabetic and diagnosed with sleep apnea, Trippple X, whose real name is Darrielle Cummings, was told that if he wanted to live, he needed to change his lifestyle.

His first mission was to address the diet aspect of his life. “I find great pleasure in eating food. Food is an integral part of my relationship, my friendship and my family life. We as Jamaican people always have big nyammings and my family was no different,” he told Lifestyle.

Every Sunday, he would consume two to three different meat dishes alongside rice and peas, potato salad, pasta and vegetable, with pumpkin, carrot or cucumber juice to wash it all down. Then there was ice cream and cake for dessert. So his first order of business was to kick his addiction.

Second on the agenda was adjusting his fitness setting to fat-burning mode. While he was a dancer, the activity never factored in as exercise since it was aligned solely to rehearsals and performances. “I wasn’t dancing to burn calories or it wasn’t intense enough to do so,” Cummings explained.

WORKOUT REGIME

He found out that he was unfit the hard way during his first time at boot camp. His current workout regime includes HIIT (high-intensity interval training) exercises, cardio and weightlifting.

Initially, Cummings exercised structure and discipline in the food and fitness department, but with the emergence of COVID-19, he fell off course while confined indoors. Now, he is reverting to his earlier mission, doubling his efforts to become his former fit self, pre-pandemic. He is currently refraining from carb consumption, limiting his food portions and engaging in intermittent fasting.

Hiking hills daily, he also enlisted the expertise of personal trainer, Patrice White. “I find walking the hill in the middle of the day in blazing sun wearing a hoodie and sweatpants or a sauna suit to be challenging and effective. I am also a fan of variation training,” he revealed.

White, he says, is an excellent trainer who creates challenges, making the session more enjoyable. “Patrice is a slave driver. I think she is wanted for crimes against humanity,” he said jokingly, but confessed that her methods work for him.

The biggest plus of the weight loss for Cummings is dropping to department store sizes and having more convenient opportunities to shop the latest trends. “I’m a very fashionable person. Mi like fi dress up and me like fi look good. A lot of things I wouldn’t be able to get in my size, I’m getting them now. Since losing weight, I can shop in department stores and that’s a great feeling,” he shared.

While he is grateful for the support of his family members and friends, he is still amazed by the discouraging remarks of others, but he remains focused on the positive. His advice to others on their weight-loss journey is to take it one day at a time. “You will have speed bumps and potholes, but re-evaluate and get back at it because you’re doing this for yourself. Find your reason.”
