Newly-weds start honeymoon at carnival
Chivalry is certainly not missing from the road march as Yard Mas reveller Stefan Tanghow helped his girlfriend, Naija Dewar, with her costume. The two were spotted on the road in their Oya costume.
The Miami-based couple, who is playing mas for the first time together, has been a couple for two years. “This is my second time jumping and his first time,” Dewar told The Gleaner.
Just minutes before lunch time, the lovebirds were seen happily chippin’ down Hope Road, easing their carnival tabanca. The pair arrived in Jamaica the previous week and attended a series of soca events including Soca Brainwash, Tailgate and Sunrise Breakfast party, just to name a few.
When asked which songs they were most looking forward to in Jamaica, they both shared that they were looking forward to hearing all the carnival hits.
First-timer Isheka Haynes, who walked in at lunch time, decided to jump with Yard Mas. Stunning in her Queen of the Dance costume, she was joined on the road by her husband, Nick. The couple have been together for 13 years, and they have a daughter.
They recently upgraded their relationship status to husband and wife. “We got married yesterday actually,” Isheka revealed, making Sunday’s road march their first appearance as Mr and Mrs.
While Isheka is the ultimate soca junkie, her husband Nick is happy to support his wife on her adventures. And who wouldn’t love a day away from being parents to get back to being a couple again?
Although she loves the energy of 2023 soca songs, the ‘wife is life’ revellers hoped to dance Machel Montana’s Fast Wine with her husband.
