One Sunday morning, Romell Roache visited the Potters Tabernacle of Joy Church in Spanish Town, St Catherine, as the designated speaker. Upon pausing on the platform to pray, he felt the Lord speak to him, saying that once he opened his eyes, he would see his future wife. When he looked up, his gaze met the beautiful Britley Gayle, who he would marry three years later.

He tells Island Wedding, “When I finished praying, opened my eyes and locked gaze with my wife, I went up to her at the end of that service and told her I admired her.”

Britley, who initially thought he dressed very well and sang wonderfully, shared that in that moment, the idea of him being her husband never crossed her mind.

The pair began as platonic friends and prayer partners. However, without intending to pursue a romantic relationship, a divine intervention occurred, leading to a deeper connection after 40 days of prayer and fasting.“God made a supernatural shift in our life on October 12, 2020,” Romell added.

Tables began to turn in his favour when he took her out for their first date on her birthday, November 20, that same year. It was there that the vision became clear.

“He listened to everything I had been wanting and made my dreams come true. After dining at Triple Century, we did a photo shoot at the Waterfront in downtown thereafter,” she said.

Since moving forward together, Britley continues to marvel at how handsome, hilarious, selfless, patient, and ambitious Romell is, “My husband is a giver. His generosity knows no bounds, and he gives of himself even when he literally has nothing to give. Knowing exactly how to put a smile on people’s face, there is never a dull moment with him. He is the life of every party. He is someone who believes in achieving success and pursuing excellence in every aspect of his life - mentally, emotionally, spiritually or academically. He wants the best and he works towards it.”

She also credited him with being the driving force behind her achievements. “If I had ever felt like quitting, he would always be there to support me,” she said, adding, “He met me while I was in a dark place, having just left a toxic relationship. And he was patient in rebuilding a trust he never destroyed and mending a heart he never broke. His constant reassurance and display of love created a safe space that I could let down my walls.”

Her confession surprised both of them. She was accustomed to being judged by others based on the situation, but her openness only drew Romell closer and deepened his love for her. This erased any doubts she had, and she knew from that moment that Romell was the one for her.

Pleasantly impressed by her unique demeanour, slim built, fabulous dressing, and a welcoming personality from the get-go, he explained further that Britley exudes a radiance that speaks to her being a woman of God. “I love how beautiful, smart, godly Britley is. She is a masterpiece, a godsend.”

Britley has been a source of strength and constant motivation. “She fuels my passion and gives support in every area of my life. I am able to better manage my finances. She transformed me from a spender into a saver. I am spiritually kept alive through our constant devotionals. We both share a zeal for educational advancement, and we have done many educational courses together.

After three years of courtship, Romell asked Britley to marry him with a proposal surrounded by close family and friends.

Romell recounted. “I proposed to her on her birthday, November 20, 2023.” What was scheduled to be a grand engagement over dinner with family and friends went south. And he had to switch gears.

“With a short time remaining, I organised with her friends in Mandeville and rented a venue for dinner. I had the place fully decorated, rolling out a red carpet from the entrance of the venue to the seat where she would be sitting. She was then brought to the venue by her friend blindfolded and led to meet me on my knees, where I asked, ‘Will you marry me?’,” he revealed.

Deon McDonald from Royal Weddings and Services stood as the couple’s wedding planner, taking every vision and bringing it to life. As for the wedding dress, Britley said yes to a gorgeous ball gown from Unions Bridal Boutique.

On October 12, in the presence of God and loved ones, the couple joined hands in holy matrimony at Boone Hall Oasis in Stony Hill, St Andrew.

According to the groom, the wedding was a dream come true, “The highlight for me was when we sang to each other.”

The bride shared a similar sentiment. “Our wedding was more than I could ever ask for. All the details that we wanted came together - from the cake to the bridal party and the right scenery. Everything was beautiful and perfect,” Mrs Gayle-Roache reminisced.
