KSAC to hold back 20 per cent of funds owed to JPS

Despite owing millions of dollars to the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) Mayor of Kingston Angela Brown Burke says the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) will be holding back 20 per cent of funds due to the light and power company because of non-functioning streetlights.

The Mayor says an audit is to be undertaken at nights by the KSAC to ascertain the number of streetlights that are not working and where they are located.

She says the KSAC has been asking individuals to make reports about streetlights which are not working so that the Corporation can have discussions with the JPS about these lights.

In addition, Brown Burke says the JPS provides the KSAC with a report on the lights it has fixed but she insists that the number of lights fixed by the company is fewer than those which are not working.

Local authorities such as the KSAC pay for streetlights with money collected from property taxes.
