A 63-year-old farmer was killed yesterday in an alleged shoot out involving the St Thomas police.

He has been identified as Alvin Allen, of Beacon Hill in Bath in the parish.

It is reported that a police patrol went to a four acre ganja farm in Green Castle, Bath, following reports from a resident that men in a ganja field fired shots at him.

The police say two of three men who were discovered in a shed opened fire on them.

They say they returned the fire.

Two of the men reportedly escaped while Allen was found with gunshot wounds to his abdomen.

He was rushed to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police say 22 nine millimetre cartridges were recovered from the shed.

They say investigations to locate the other two men are continuing.
