JUTC believes their buses are being targeted

The state-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) believes its buses are being deliberately targeted by arsonists.
That’s the assertion by JUTC managing director Colin Campbell after yet another of the company’s buses was destroyed by fire in Cooreville Gardens, St Andrew yesterday.
Noting that one bus typically costs €300,000 or approximately J$39.2 million, Campbell says this is the sixth one to be destroyed by fire since he took over as head of the company in July 2013.
Speaking with The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre last evening, Campbell said in the latest incident the preliminary report of engineers who examined the bus shows the fire was the work of arsonists.
Last month another JUTC bus was destroyed by fire in downtown Kingston.
Campbell says that incident is also believed to have been set on fire.
He has revealed that a camera installed on that bus captured footage of an individual who is now being sought for questioning.

Meanwhile, Campbell is seeking to assure that it’s safe for commuters to ride on JUTC buses.
