Marked for death, saved by grace

Seventy-nine-year-old Zetty Ferguson, who was given three months to live by doctors, but has survived at length, allowing her to exercise her democratic right on election day.

Ferguson, who hails from the community of Black Hill in West Portland, had to be carried by two young men to the Black Hill Primary School polling station in that community to cast her ballot, as a result of her physical disability.

"I have defied them through the saving grace of God Almighty. It has been two years since, and for that I'm thankful. The Lord has spared me thus far, and as such, there is no way that I could stay home. It is incumbent of me to exercise my political right because my God has afforded me that chance," she added.

According to Ferguson, she was hard-hit by a stroke, which was compounded by a mystery illness that left her paralysed from the waist down. She said her condition worsened.

"My faith in God saved me and today, I just could not sit by and not exercise my political right. Everyone needs the Lord and I am a living testimony that when man has written you off, God will see you through. I am appealing to the entire Jamaica to trust in the Lord," she said.
