There is more opposition to the proposal for the renaming of the Denbigh High School to Mike Henry High in honour of the Central Clarendon MP.
The Education Ministry is now holding consultations on the proposal and already, the Denbigh High School Past Students' Association has started a petition against the renaming.
So far the association has received more than 800 signatures.
The vice-president of the Denbigh High School Past Students' Association Sajato Powell said renaming Denbigh high would be backward step.
According to Powell, the school has recorded significant improvement over the years could lose the interest and loyalty of thousands of graduates if there were to be a name change.
Powell also says his association is concerned that parents may remove their children from the school because of the political associations with an MP in active politics.
He says while the Denbigh High School Past Students' Association recognises Henry's instrumental role in the development of the school political perceptions may affect the school.
