The National Housing Trust (NHT) plans to issue 8,500 mortgages this year for contributors to purchase homes built by the trust or on the open market.

The announcement by NHT chairman Dr Nigel Clarke came during the ground breaking ceremony for 351 additional housing solutions in the Monymusk Country Estate Phase Two in Clarendon on the weekend.

The National Housing Trust (NHT) said the development is part of plans to inject $18 billion into the Jamaican economy over the next three and a half years through housing developments in Clarendon.

The Monymusk Country Estate project is one of nine housing schemes to be developed in Clarendon by 2020.

In the meantime, the NHT chairman said 100 units from the Monymusk Country Estate will be reserved exclusively for sugar workers who are not yet homeowners.
