SERHA to fog several communities this month

In an effort to control mosquito breeding, during the month of August, the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) will be carrying out fogging programmes in several communities in Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, and St Thomas.

Persons are being advised to look out for the health teams in their communities and do their best to accommodate and cooperate with them.

Persons can check regional centres in their area to find out when the fogging team will visit their communities.

The vector is responsible for a number of diseases, including the Zika virus, chikungunya, yellow fever and dengue fever, and controlling the mosquito population is critical to reducing the spread of these diseases.

According to SERHA, deviations from the schedule may arise if there are: epidemiological notification of suspected or confirmed cases of mosquito-borne illnesses; adverse weather conditions - rain/flooding, heavy winds; administrative requests for fogging; or special events or any other special request.
