Supervisors at Sav hospital to face disciplinary hearing over construction controversy
The Health Ministry says a recommendation has been made for supervisory staff at the Sav-la-mar hospital to face a disciplinary hearing for allowing construction repairs at the Paediatric Ward of the Westmoreland-based facility while it was still occupied by ill children.
A release from the health ministry said Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton, has asked the Western Regional Health Authority to proceed to take the appropriate action.
Tufton says persons must be held accountable to ensure there is no repeat.
A report on the incident includes a recommendation for a review of protocols, such as the approach to supervision for renovations within the public health system.
Tufton has asked the regional health authority to submit to the ministry within a month a proposal for such a review.
The minister had requested an urgent investigation and report into the matter after a video was circulated on social media almost two weeks ago, showing workmen doing repairs with ill children in the work area.
