Security forces shut down Denham Town

Members of the security forces are now erecting their forward operating base at the Denham Town Restorative Justice Centre, after the West Kingston Community was this morning declared Jamaica’s second zone of special operations (ZOSO).

The zone, which transitioned from a curfew imposed at 5 a.m., will cover the section of the community with high levels of criminal activity.  That was initially identified by the security forces as:

* North: Along Greenwich Street leading onto Blount Street continuing along an imaginary line behind the Golden Heights community from Albert Street to Rose Lane;

* East: Along Rose Lane from the northern boundary to Beeston Street;

* South: Along Beeston Street continuing onto Spanish Town Road from the eastern boundary to Last Street;

* West: Along Last Street leading onto Market Street continuing onto Albert Street from Spanish Town Road to Greenwich Street on the northern boundary.    

Speaking with The Gleaner news team in Denham Town a short while ago, communications officer for the Jamaica Defence Force(JDF) Major Basil Jarrett said that murder, shooting and extortion have long been a feature of the community, hence its selection.

“The main activity right now is to cordon off the area and maintain a high security presence at the entrance and exits points. The soldiers are already in place, conducting cordon and search and the engineers are putting together our base from which all our planning and operations will be launched from, this is the nerve centre of the operation,” said Jarrett.
