2,200 district constable posts to go onto gov't establishment

District Constables are one step closer to joining the ranks of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

The House of Representatives yesterday passed the Civil Service Establishment (General Order) 2017 which will result in 2,200 district constable posts going onto the government establishment.

The district constables will now fall under the JCF.

In moving the resolution, Minister of the Public Service, Audley Shaw, said this will regularise the status of district constables in the JCF.

The Order allows for the creation of a number of several other new posts in the civil service as well as the abolition, upgrading and retiling of other positions.

Among the new posts are jobs in the Office of the Director of the Public Prosecution, the establishment of a Cyber Incident Response Team Division in the Technology Ministry and the establishment of the Sex Offender Registry in the Department of Correctional Services.

Overall, 2,354 new posts were created, 50 posts were upgraded, and 26 positions were reclassified.

Further, 103 posts were retiled, six re-graded, one post red-circled and one post reinstated.
