Published:Sunday | April 15, 2018 | 12:00 AM

Parents, teachers, principals, and other educators will have an opportunity to enhance their skills for dealing with boys at two workshops being hosted by the J. Wray & Nephew Foundation (JWNF) tomorrow at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.

Each forum caters to 50 participants and falls within the JWNF's goal of 'Transforming lives and communities for a better Jamaica'. The workshops form part of a week of activities dubbed 'Focus on Boys', which also comprises a breakfast meeting with policymakers and an assembly of more than 300 boys.

FIRST WORKSHOP

The first workshop will take place at lunchtime and targets parents. The interactive workshop will expose an audience of 50 mothers and fathers to best practices, tactics, and strategies for raising their boys. Participants in this workshop will receive lunch and workshop materials for a contribution of $5,000 per ticket. The session will be moderated by Dr Michael Abrahams, obstetrician and gynaecologist, comedian, and father of two boys.

Later that day, JWNF will host its second workshop, which targets educators.

Both sessions will feature presentations from international speakers Troy Kemp, executive director of the National Center for the Development of Boys in Tennessee, and Calvin Hadley, strategic adviser and student ombudsman at Howard University in the United States.

The JWN Foundation, which was founded in 2012, operates under three pillars - social inclusion, education, and culture - and focuses on strengthening the communities within J. Wray & Nephew Limited's business environs at Spanish Town Road in Kingston, New Yarmouth in Clarendon, and Appleton Estate in St Elizabeth.
