Man accused of Westmoreland quadruple murder conditionally freed by court

A man accused of the shooting deaths of four people, including two teenage boys, in Westmoreland nearly three years ago has been conditionally freed of murder.

Yesterday, prosecutors in the St Elizabeth Circuit Court opted to enter a nolle prosequi in the murder case against Jevaughn Flemmings after the main witness backed out of giving evidence.

The case, which was transferred from the Westmoreland Circuit Court, was expected to start yesterday.

But, according to reports, the witness indicated that she has no interest in being placed in the witness protection programme or giving evidence by video link and insisted that she has not been threatened by anyone.

Justice Glen Brown, who presided over the case, warned Flemmings that if the witness is harmed, prosecutors could simply re-start the case and apply to have her statement admitted into evidence.

Flemmings, who was 19 years old at the time, was arrested and charged with murder after he surrendered to police investigators one day after the July 12, 2015 quadruple killing that left resident of Whithorn in shock.

Fourteen-year-old Shawn Clayton, Demar Doeman, 16, Romario Drummond, 20, and Theodore Tennant, 22, were fatally shot while playing a video game at a shop in the community.
