National Works Agency (NWA) Communication Manager Stephen Shaw says the Llandewey Bridge, which links the communities of Llandewey, Ramble and Cedar Valley in St Thomas, is now only accessible by small vehicles.

Shaw says a recent inspection of the bridge found that a section of the concrete deck is defective.

He says an object has since been placed leading to the bridge to alert approaching motorists, adding that caution signs will be erected.

The NWA says it will temporarily repair the bridge’s damaged deck with a metal deck, noting that the work is being treated as an emergency.

Shaw says the NWA intended to replace the bridge with those plans currently being finalised.

The NWA is urging motorists be careful when using the bridge.
