Medical Officer for the Clarendon Health Department Dr Kimberly Scarlett Campbell has indicated that biggest challenge facing the department is a shortage of medical doctors.

Scarlett Campbell made the declaration at yesterday's monthly meeting of Clarendon Municipal Corporation.

“Right now our doctors are stretched all over the parish and it is very difficult for us to maintain coverage because we are having more and more health centres being opened,” she shared.

Over the past few months, several health centres have been opened in Clarendon with the latest being in Tweedside and another set to be opened in Bunkers Tree on June 24.

Noting that the parish is divided into nine health districts, Scarlett Campbell said ideally each district should have a medical doctor from Monday to Friday.

But, she said because of the shortage doctors are only able to be present for one or two days per week, which she noted is sufficient.

Scarlett Campbell disclosed that Clarendon is to get four doctors from Cuba in mid-July, noting that 10 more doctors are still needed to adequately service the parish.
