Businessman Omar Elliot who shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and injured man was yesterday sentenced to a total of 28 years imprisonment in the St Elizabeth Circuit Court.
Justice Glen Brown sentenced Elliot to 11 years for manslaughter, 10 years for illegal possession of firearm and seven years for wounding with intent.
However, he will spend a maximum of 11 years in prison as the sentences are to run concurrently.
Elliot, who is from Ballard's Valley in the parish, pleaded guilty on June 4, one year after the shooting incident.
On June 4, 2017, the businessman went to the house his ex-girlfriend, 26-year-old Jillian Nathan, which she shared with her child and other family members.
He forced his way into the house and then into a room occupied by Nathan and opened fire hitting her and man, who was later identified as Kemar Simpson.
Elliot fled the scene with the murder weapon.
The police were summoned and Nathan and Simpson were taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Elliot surrendered to the police the following day.
He was subsequently charged.
