An explosion has hit a rally attended by Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the British Broadcasting Corporation has reported.

A spokesman for Mnangagwa says he was not hurt.

However, there are media reports that several persons were injured by the blast.

Footage from the explosion at White City Stadium, located in the city of Bulawayo, appears to show Mnangagwa leaving the stage after addressing supporters when a device went off.

President Mnangagwa took office last November after the 37-year tenure of his former mentor Robert Mugabe.
