Glasspole Brown has been recommended by the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) to the Governor General for appointment as Director of Elections.

The ECJ says Brown, who is currently acting in the post, came out on top following a selection process open to internal and external applicants.

His predecessor Orrette Fisher resigned in March amid a court battle with the ECJ over his job.

It says Brown has served for nine years as Assistant Director of Elections - Administration, before which he occupied senior management positions in the public and private sectors.

Commenting on the announcement Dorothy Pine-McLarty, Chairman of the ECJ, said that she's pleased with Brown’s selection.

“Mr Brown is a fine son of this Jamaican soil and each of the other Commissioners and I wholeheartedly recommend his appointment as Director.  I am satisfied that the Electoral Office of Jamaica is in good hands".
