THE POWER of one and wonder of the collective is on show as Wisynco Eco's Recycling Challenge gathers steam.

Since its May 28 launch, the challengers, among them Tank-Weld and Chilitos JaMexican Restaurant, have stepped up their game, doing their part to tackle Jamaica's solid waste challenge, one plastic bottle at a time.

"Tank-Weld's position on separation of garbage and recycling is definitely changing since being a part of this challenge. Before, we used to do like many others and simply throw away our items. However, now we're finding that it's easier to separate our plastics from metal waste from garbage, and then have our plastics placed in the recycling receptacles," said Jelani Malcolm of Tank-Weld.

With the passage of each day, more of their team members are getting on board, with the result that the company has now collected 13,266 bottles.

Chilitos, for their part, have invited their patrons to join them in their recycling efforts, which they see as an important part of doing business.

"We want our customers to take away that this idea can be practised in their homes as well, not just when they visit our restaurant," said owner and operator Christopher Boxe.

So far, the restaurant has collected 6,490 bottles for recycling.

Trailing them are challengers The Gleaner with 1,936 bottles. The group is led by challengers Chad-Ad Distributors with 28,402, followed by ZIP103FM with 22,616 bottles and Fidelity Motors with 22,110.
