Utilise channels created to address personal issues, JCF urge cops

The Police High Command is urging members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to utilise the programmes established to address personal issues.

These include the JCF Chaplaincy Unit, the Medical Services Branch and the Volunteer Pastors’ Programme.

The appeal by the high command comes a day after Senior Superintendent Dermot Lawrence is suspected to have committed suicide at home in Mango Valley near Montego Bay, St James.

“We are mindful of the intense stresses of the job and the impact these can have on our members’ personal lives and performance,” the leadership of the JCF said in a statement today.

“We therefore implore our members to avail themselves of the mechanisms that the organisation has established to cater to their overall wellbeing,” it added.

The high command said Lawrence’s work ethic and discipline was a blueprint of excellence in policing.

“His 37 years of distinguished service to the Force and country spanned postings across multiple geographic divisions, which have benefited enormously from his input,” the high command said.

The JCF Chaplaincy Unit, the Community Safety and Security Branch and the Medical Services Branch have been directed to provide support to Lawrence’s family and colleagues.
