Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Senator Kamina Johnson Smith says Jamaica expresses its deep concern at reports of a suspected terrorist attack on innocent pedestrians in the vicinity of Westminster in London as well as reports of an increasing death toll resulting from a collapsed bridge in Genoa, Italy.

Johnson Smith extended sincere sympathies to those injured and to the families and loved ones of persons who lost their lives in the separate unrelated incidents.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the British government and people, as they were in March of last year when a similar incident caused the death of six persons on the Westminster Bridge,” she said in a statement.

Johnson Smith said Jamaica reaffirms its position that any deliberate act of terrorism is unacceptable and that democratic countries must stand strong against terror and work together for a peaceful world where people are able to enjoy a safe and secure environment.

“We also extend our sincere sympathies to the persons and families affected by the tragic infrastructure accident in Genoa, especially as it comes in the wake of another recent tragic traffic accident in Bologna in which 2 persons died and 70 were injured.”
