Ramp, taxiway resurfacing at Sangster airport 80% complete

MBJ Airports Limited, the operator of the Sangster International Airport in St James, is reporting that the ramp and taxiway resurfacing works are on schedule and 80% complete. 
 
MBJ is investing some US$26 million to resurface the taxiways, shoulders, and ramps at the airport.
 
The resurfacing works were contracted to Mandeville-based S&G Roads in mid-2017.

S&G subcontracted the concrete works to Carib Cement owner Cemex, which imported a slip paver, the only equipment of its kind in Jamaica, to ensure the job is done to the highest quality standards. 
 
Cemex began the concrete works in mid-June.

All construction works are being performed at night so that they don’t interfere with normal airport operations. 
 
S&G Road Surfacing will complete the asphalt works on schedule by mid-September, according to Deputy Airport Director Carlos Salgado.

The concrete works subcontracted to Cemex will also be completed on schedule by the end of November, he said.

The airport’s ramps are being resurfaced using concrete rather than asphalt to ensure greater durability, Salgado explained.
