Diary of a Ghetto Priest | Father Ho Lung and Friends perform 'The Parables' at the Little Theatre, wow!

"Father, I have sinned against heaven." – This magnificent parable comes alive at the Little Theatre.

Come to The Parables! Bring your husbands and wives and your children. It will be fun, yet deeply serious - like the cross and the glorious resurrection.

Tomorrow, Saturday, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 4:00 and 7 p.m., we premiere The Parables, a new production of Father Ho Lung and Friends.

Yes! These stories from the Bible are from a different time and age, but they are also timeless, presenting us with truths that pertain to men and women from all ages and every different culture.

Moreover, they are told dramatically, involving many different characters and many different plots, and are rich with themes pertaining to truth and falsehood, good and evil, and God and His rebellious people. They are breathtakingly beautiful, full of passions and the Lord's involvement with us, undertaking the landscape of the soul and the interior life of men.

The main character in The Parables, however, is God and His deep concern for us. God is a father, a judge, a lover and the saviour of us all. How do we portray God on the stage? How do we understand what is His will? How do we human persons react in our world trying to do His will and in His ways, given the exigencies of life?

The talent and dedication of our singers and musicians never cease to amaze me. Their eagerness to perform and to give themselves in service of the poorest of people permeates the performances.

'I LOVE THE ENERGY'

I love the energy of these young people and their purposefulness. They really are Jamaican! No doubt there are difficulties in their lives and the temptation of secularism. But they transcend all of this as they perform, practise and intermingle with their peers spreading numbers of hours in preparation.

The Parables will be a wow! It's in God's hands, and the exuberance of these 50 talented Jamaicans will be on display.

Drama, music, and dance combined in mini-operas make for great storytelling and entertaining real-life presentations, and that is what The Parables is.

I know you all like to see me dance, so I will dance. I know you all like to laugh at your priest, so I'll make you laugh.

As Saint Paul says, "I'll make myself a fool for Christ in order to bring people to the kingdom."

At the same time, I want you to understand, however, that while the kingdom of God is great fun and full of joy, even as we go forward living out Christ-filled lives, we are serious Christians.
