LINSTEAD, St Catherine:

The Bermaddy Primary School in St Catherine got a facelift after China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) commissioned a new roadway at the institution on Monday.

Melbourne Thompson, principal of the Bermaddy Primary School in St Catherine, said he is happy that CHEC built a proper roadway to enter and exit the school's compound.

"This is a welcome gesture of good corporate citizenry, as even recently a truck skidded off the track that we had. This is a great improvement, and the students and all [others] can attend school without fear of mud whenever it rains," Thompson said at the handover which took place at the school's entrance.

Meanwhile, past student and board member Harry George Daley echoed similar sentiments. "We welcome the development, as the addition of the highway has caused some discomfort by way of flooding to farmers. We really appreciate its (CHEC) effort to give back to the community and especially to the school as the children are the future," Daley said.

Diana Farquharson, administration manager for North-South Highway, stated: "We will continue to support the community; we have started with the school. We gave a back-to-school treat and now this work is just a continuance of our commitment to be a good corporate citizen."
