Earth Today | Long Mountain gets recycling cage

THE LONG Mountain Country Club residential community, high in the hills of St Andrew, will benefit from its own recycling cage to be set up by WISYNCO.

As part of WISYNCO's ongoing drive to make recycling a way of life in Jamaica, the company donated a recycling cage to the gated community to assist the residents in storing and recycling their plastic bottles, both domestically via homes and commercially via the commissary operations.

On September 1, the cage was officially revealed to community members.

The Long Mountain Country Club Association also launched their recycling drive, to which more than 100 residents have signed up.

"WISYNCO is more than happy to assist Long Mountain in their recycling efforts," said the company's environment communication officer, Shelly-Ann Dunkley.

Simple and easy

"We want to help residents create habits around recycling as we continue our efforts to help Jamaicans recycle by getting community members involved and motivated, making recycling simple and easy for as many persons as possible," she added.

This initiative adds to Long Mountain's continuous efforts to be an environmentally friendly community.

"Over the years, we have planted and maintained lots of vegetation on the property while keeping the green areas in their natural state as much as possible. We are becoming more environmentally friendly through waste water and mulch storage, energy-efficient light bulbs, and now, this recycling cage," noted Stephen Dawkins, president of the Long Mountain Country Club Association.

Member of Parliament for St Andrew Eastern the Hon Fayval Williams was in attendance at the unveiling and commended the residents, stating, "The Long Mountain Country Club is at the forefront of the recycling initiative in Jamaica and will serve as a great example to other communities of how a motivated group of citizens can come together and do so much."

Other attendees at the launch included People's National Party Councillor for the Papine Division in Eastern St Andrew Venesha Phillips, members of the WISYNCO team, and residents of the Long Mountain Country Club.
