New Kingston Kiwanians celebrate 29 years

The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston (KCNK) recently celebrated its 29th anniversary, thanking corporate and media sponsors who have given support to the club in its efforts to help the less fortunate and recognising its members for their support and service provided over the last year.

The club, which forms a part of Division 23 East in the Eastern Canada & Caribbean District, was organised on September 6, 1989, and chartered on November 14, 1989, under the principles of Kiwanis International.

KCNK is a group of professional and business women who came together to give service through the first all-female club in the Kiwanis movement in Jamaica, and over the last 29 years, it has helped to provide opportunities for at-risk youth in vulnerable communities, deepen scholarships in schools, and build leadership and entrepreneurial drives among young men and women.

The club is committed to the field of education and has worked extensively with children, including the mentally and physically challenged.

As a result of its efforts, the club has won many international, district, and Division awards for outstanding service projects.

Kiwanians recognised for their support and who received Awards for the year:

- President's Award - Chairman Claudette Walker

- Director of the Year - Directors Karen Tomlinson and Leurice Brown (tie)

- Chairman of the Year - Chairman Kamaria Brown

- Interclubber of the Year - Director Patricia Whyte
