Canadian low-cost airline, Swoop, is coming to Montego Bay, Jamaica as its first Caribbean sun-destination.

Swoop will operate twice-weekly flights from the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport to Sangster International Airport beginning on December 16, 2018, through to April 24, 2019.

The airline will offer fares of roughly 150 Canadian dollars each way between Hamilton and Montego Bay with flights operating on Wednesdays and Sundays only.

"The addition of Montego Bay to our network is another important milestone,” said Steven Greenway, President of Swoop, said in a media release.

“Many Canadians of Jamaican origin live in the Toronto area, which makes this new route ideal for connecting friends, family and loved ones, as does the vacation appeal of replacing ten feet of snow with ten miles of white sand beaches this winter," Greenway added.

The announcement followed Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett led meetings with Canadian travel industry stakeholders in Toronto earlier this month.

The meetings fell in line with continued efforts to increase growth out of the Canadian market.

“We have given much attention to Canada in recent times as we inherited a market in decline when we entered office in 2016. We have stabilised and are now on a growth path.” said Bartlett.
