Jamaicans to be honoured today

More than 200 people are expected to congregate on the lawns of King's House in St Andrew today to participate in the annual Heroes' Day National Honours and Awards Ceremony.

Heading the list of awardees this year is Harold George 'Harry Belafonte' Bellanfanti Jr. who will be appointed membership in the Order of Merit for his outstanding contribution in the field of music.

Other awardees include Olympian Alia Atkinson for her outstanding representation of Jamaica in the field of swimming and being the first black woman to win a world championships title and Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke for her distinguished contribution in safeguarding the interests of Jamaican nationals in the USA Diaspora on immigration matters.

Both will be appointed to the rank of Order of Merit in rank of Commander.
