WESTERN BUREAU:

Patrick Prendergast, the Campus Director at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Western Jamaica Campus, has been appointed the Co-Chair of the Mayor's Advisory Committee to advise the Office of the Mayor of Montego Bay on matters of development in the western city.

"I am pleased to advise you that the campus director of the University of the West Indies, Western Jamaica Campus, Mr Patrick Prendergast has consented to serve on the mayor's advisory committee and it is my pleasure to announce that he has been appointed as one of the two co-chairs, that will lead this committee," said Montego Bay Mayor, Homer Davis, while addressing a smart and sustainable cities symposium at the University of the West Indies Mona, Western Jamaica Campus, last week.

Davis said the advisory committee will be driven by key stakeholders from academia, the private sector, to include manufacturing, agriculture, the business process outsourcing, tourism and other sectors. He will also advise the mayor on critical development, projects and programmes that will make Montego Bay the best city in the world.

"The hope is that this committee will be a permanent addition to the mayor's office and although members and mayors will change overtime the work continues," Davis added.
