Homer Davis, the chairman of the St James Municipal Corporation is calling for the establishment of three emergency satellite centres in rural St James to minimise the loss of lives and properties in the event of a crisis.

"We need to create at least three satellite emergency response centres in the rural areas of the parish and I would suggest those three areas to be Cambridge, Maroon Town and Adelphi," said Davis at a meeting of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.

According to the mayor, these facilities would be adequately staffed and outfitted with the necessary equipment such as a mini-pump, fire truck and an ambulance to provide first response in case of an emergency.

"These could be based at the police stations in those areas, thus making them a multifunctional base. We could have a quick response team from the fire brigade. We could have ambulances that are strategically located in these areas," he asserted.
