State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Pearnel Charles Jr. is reaffirming the government's committed to securing the safety of all Jamaicans, including returning residents.

Charles Jr. said he and portfolio minister Senator Kamina Johnson Smith are deeply saddened by the reports of the violent incidents involving returning residents.

“ ...we are advised that investigations into these matters are ongoing. The Police High Command is working assiduously into bringing these perpetrators to justice.

We expect a complete investigation of these matters and urge all citizens with information to contact the police,” the state minister said in a statement.

Charles Jr. said the government is using a multifaceted approach to crime fighting in making Jamaica a safe place for all.

“Given the unique vulnerabilities of our returning residents, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has been working collaboratively with our critical stakeholders in providing information, support and guidance to the returning residents’ community.”
