Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips greets senior citizens during a treat in his East Central St Andrew constituency on the weekend.

People's National Party President and Member of Parliament for East Central St Andrew, Dr Peter Phillips, told senior citizens that their contribution to community and nation building should be lauded by all, especially those who will inherit the fruits of their labour.

Phillips was addressing senior citizens who were feted at an annual Christmas treat, which he organised for persons in his constituency recently in the Molynes Road area of St Andrew.

He thanked the senior citizens for having impacted positively on the lives of young people and the development of their communities.

The seniors were treated to a hearty and healthy meal, music and cultural items that celebrated the season.

"Your contribution to the development of your community, whether you fought for rights of others, or you helped to make sure that your community was safe for children playing. We thank you for your contribution," Phillips told the gathering.

He said that the true measure of a caring, progressive and forward-thinking society is not how well its current generation uses what was left by the previous one, but what it leaves for those to come.
