Minto returns to JCF after six years as director of safety and security in schools

The director of safety and security in schools in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Assistant Superintendent of Police Coleridge Minto, has returned to active duty in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

In a media release this afternoon, Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid confirmed the return of Minto to the JCF.

Minto was on secondment from the JCF to the education ministry between 2013 and 2019.

Reid commended the assistant superintendent for the leadership and "exceptional service" he provided as director of Safety and Security in Schools, director of the Values and Attitudes Programme and coordinator of the Behaviour Modification Programme and Uniformed Groups. 

According to Reid, the education ministry had benefited from two extensions of Minto's secondment.

With the departure of Minto, the education minister said Richard Troupe is now the acting director of the Safety and Security in Schools Unit, with support from Andrew Pitkin. Reid said both men benefited from the leadership and guidance of Minto. 

The Safe School Programme was started in the JCF in 2004 and in the education ministry in 2008 under the leadership of Alphansus Davis, who was an advisor to then education minister, Andrew Holness.
