Diplomat, health worker in Antigua accused of practising medicine without licence

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Two people, including Ambassador at Large, Dr Patrick Mathew, are due to return to court on July 2 after they were granted bail on charges of practising medicine without a license.
Mathew, a chiropractor and Arnold Joseph, an operating theatre technician, are accused of operating as general medical practitioners and performing a circumcision that they were neither registered nor licensed to do on a child, who is now six-years-old.
It is being alleged that the procedure was performed between April 5-8 2015.
They appeared before Magistrate N’gaio Emmanuel-Edwards on Wednesday, who granted them EC$10,000 bail with an EC$5,000 cash component.
As part of the bail conditions, the two men must report to the police three times a week.
They must also surrender all their travel documents.
The two men have also been told that they should not interfere or communicate with any witness or potential witnesses in the case.
