Police operations result in seizure of guns, drugs

Police detectives across the island continue to make arrests, seize illegal firearms and clamp down on the illegal cultivation of marijuana with their recent operations in sections of Clarendon, Manchester and St Thomas.
The police are reporting that on Saturday one man was taken into custody following operations in Porus, Manchester.
According to the police, a search of the vehicle being driven by the suspect, revealed several knitted bags containing ganja.
He was subsequently arrested.
Meanwhile, police personnel in Havanna Heights, Clarendon seized a Smith-and-Wesson .38 revolver, six rounds of ammunition and 153 plastic parcels containing ganja on Sunday.
Forty-three-year-old Clive Thomas, otherwise called ‘Iron Tail, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, possession of ganja and dealing in ganja.
Additionally, over in Yallahs, St Thomas, the police say operational activities by members of the Narcotics Division and Mobile Reserve on Monday resulted in the destruction of five acres of ganja at three separate locations.
Ten pounds of ganja seeds were also destroyed.
The public is reminded that the cultivation of ganja by unlicensed individuals constitutes a breach of the Dangerous Drugs Act and the police will be relentless in their efforts to ensure the dismantling of the guns-for-drugs trade.
